​Tratta Campaigns defines a segment as a single part of an outbound message sent via SMS or MMS. For standard SMS, one segment includes up to 160 characters using GSM-7 encoding, or up to 70 characters if the message contains Unicode characters such as emojis or non-Latin scripts. Messages longer than these limits are automatically broken into multiple segments — 153 characters per part for GSM-7, or 67 for Unicode. MMS messages, which include media such as images or video, are treated as one segment per message.​
